LOPE DE VEGA's PHOENIX OF SPAIN wins G1 Irish 2000 Guineas

PHOENIX OF SPAIN, who received abundant loving post-race attention from connections, added yet another chapter to the remarkable success story of his sire LOPE DE VEGA today when he scored the biggest win of his career in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. The colt delivered a scintillating performance in the €400,000 Irish Classic over the mile with her constant companion Jamie Spencer aboard. The pair put their stamp on the race from the start, showing the way in an eclectic field of fourteen and drawing clear gamely in the final stretch where PHOENIX OF SPAIN displayed a remarkable turn of foot. The LOPE DE VEGA-son had previously placed second to Magna Grecia in the G1 Futurity Trophy and Too Darn Hot in the G2 Champagne Stakes but turned tables on both of them today with an uncontested three-lengths advantage at the post that sealed the trip to the winners circle for owners Tony Wechsler and Ann Plummer alongside trainer Charles Hills.
