WALDGEIST brilliant third in G1 King George VI & QE Stakes

In a G1 King George VI & QE edition with potential for the record books, Andre Fabre-trained WALDGEIST presented himself in peak form today when finishing third in a thrilling performance that capped an even more thrilling race.

When the field, loaded with talent, broke from the gates at the 2400 m mark for the GBP1,250,000 G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes, WALDGEIST, with his steady partner Pierre-Charles Boudot in the saddle, was one of ten who dared to challenge the British star mare ENABLE on her quest to garner the ninth consecutive G1 win of her outstanding career. While the Galileo-colt could not keep Enable from adding one more berth to her stellar record, he delivered a scintillating performance that saw him at his best especially in the last two furlongs. Breaking like a bolt, Boudot settled WALDGEIST in the rear third of the pack from where he appeared at Enable's heels when the field entered the stretch. As Enable was busy warding off Crystal Ocean's attack, the son of WALDLERCHE made up a lot of ground and was the only one able to follow the leading duo and kept edging closer and closer, yet the post stood right for the star mare and WALDGEIST finished an absolutely outstanding one and a half lengths behind and a solid seven lengths ahead of the rest of the field.
