3yo CHESSPIECE strong runner-up in Gr.3 at Goodwood Festival

Ammerland-bred CHESSPIECE shone on his appearance at the Goodwood Festival today with a very strong second place in the £196,740 Gr.3 John Pearce Stakes. The colt, who is trained by Simon and Ed Crisford for Godolphin, once again ran a fantastic race under James Doyle and had to settle for a close second after 2400 metres, having almost looked like the winner one furlong out. The three-year-old by Nathaniel knows exclusively good form and has not finished a race worse than third since his career start in November 2022.
